Pittsburgh came in at number 8 on Forbes Magazine’s “Top Ten Best Cities for Working Mothers” list.

The Steel City has been getting kudos recently for its family-centered high quality of life. The same goes for its friendliness to working mothers, according to our findings. With a cost of living in the bottom of five of our surveyed cities, Pittsburgh is also managing to shed its Rust Belt reputation: It’s got the 10th-lowest unemployment rate and jobs that offer surprisingly good salaries. The private University of Pittsburgh and a gradually developing downtown give moms options for culture and entertainment.

Construction on Market Square is set to begin this week.  The project calls for the square to be leveled to give it a piazza-like appearance and make it more pedestrian-friendly.  Traffic will move around the square and the sidewalks will be expanded.  According to the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, through the two phases of the project, pedestrians will have complete access to Market Square businesses with at least ten feet of sidewalk available.  the Market Square Farmers Market, which takes place on Thursdays from 10 AM to 2 PM through mid-December, will have a temporary home at Gateway Plaza.  151 is excited to see the new and improved Market Square, and our residents are ready to enjoy the benefits of living close by!
